One thing that concerns me greatly and is being frequently reported on in Natural Matters, is the insiduous process of legislation designed to prevent us from buying or using 'natural', 'complementary', 'herbal' or 'traditional' medicines.
EU legislation is pending to restrict the sale of herbal remedies, homeopathic remedies and Essential Oils on the grounds that, unlike synthetic chemical drugs produced by the Pharmaceutical industry, they' havent been sufficiently tested.'
As if several thousand years of use isnt sufficient test!
They even get eminent doctors to say publicly that there is NO PROOF that these remedies work, and one has been quoted as saying that they are just 'witchcraft'  (Ha! he doesnt know how right he is)
I recently read a report that in France a man is being prosecuted for publishing a book. The subject of that book? Pornograpy perhaps? Oh no, it's a gardening book. He advises how to use stinging nettles to make an organic fertiliser. (something many gardeners already know about) Aparently the manufacture of Organic Fertiliser is illegal, and it is also illegal to advertise or advise how to make organic fertilisers. They havent been TESTED.
Anyway, dont take my word for it... follow the link and read an in depth article reprinted from The Daily mail, no less.

If you would like proof that these remedies work.... come and talk to me.... I get no end of people coming back/phoning (and reordering) to thank me for the recommendations and/or products/treatments.....

I think the Pharmaceutical companies are just maybe starting to feel a bit threatened, there are all these people out there that are finding out for themselves that natural remadies DO work, and since the law came into force where they had to list ALL the possible side effects of chemical drugs people are starting to ask whether it really is a good idea for you to take them.  Of course in some cases they have no choice, but if they do have a choice and the natural alternative works thats the course they will take.
I have suffered with a spinal problem since 4yrs old, the chemical drugs for the pain kill my stomach, so I only take them if I'm really bad.  I used to go to a spinal re-alignment therapist in Traws but sadly she moved away.  I would learn to do it myself, for my own benefit, but I would have to practice my astral projection first and that might take a bit longer!

Hi Bwgan,
Try Reiki for pain relief. If you find it helpful you can be attuned to Level One & treat yourself. You won't need to be a contortionist as the energy flows to where it is needed. See my website or message me for further info.

Hi Dragonmaster
I belong to a developement circle and quite a few are Reiki healers, I'm of the frame of mind that there is always someone worse off than me, and so stay at the back of the queue, so I guess you could say I'm coping at the moment.
But thank you so much for the thought, maybe someday in the near future I will look into it.

I've had Reiki performed on me just once at a friend's house, but it was a fabulous feeling and left me feeling really great for about a week after!

However, going back to the point of the original topic - did anyone see that series of programmes recently during which a doctor went all over the world trying out the healing powers of various alternative therapies?  I can't remember her (the doctor's) name, but she seemed to be really coming over to the idea that it wasn't just a load of hocus pocus (if you'll forgive the pun!) and that there was something to be said for these therapies and mind-sets by which people have lived for thousands of years after all.  She said herself there was no empirical evidence for a lot of it, but the effects on herself and on other people just couldn't be denied

... sadly if it aint got a chemical formula, a patent etc .... then regardless of  millions of people who swear that it works ... it is, as you say, hocus pocus in the mainstream medical world.  Any ideas for changing that view?

Other than a total collapse of the big pharmaceutical firms and a return to the more natural and holistic therapies, only time and publication of results will do the trick I think.  And there are a lot of folk who just couldn't do without the strong, chemically-based medications, too, so while some things can be sorted in a less scientific way, it wouldn't do for everyone I don't think
